HONG KONG, Mar 26, 2013 /3BL Media/ - FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world's largest express transportation company, today announced the expansion of its alternative-energy vehicle fleet with the introduction of 10 new all-electric commercial vehicles for use in Hong Kong. This is the first fleet of zero-emission all-electric vehicles for FedEx in Asia Pacific. These 10 state-of-the-art electric vehicles will be deployed in Hong Kong in March 2013, joining the more than 650 alternative-energy delivery vehicles already in the FedEx global vehicle fleet. These electric and other alternative energy have made a significant contribution towards an announcement by FedEx earlier this month that it has surpassed its goal to increase the fuel efficiency of its vehicle fleet 20 percent by 2020. FedEx has also increased its original goal by 50 percent, now setting a target for 30 percent improvement in fuel efficiency for its global vehicle fleet by the original 2020 target date. "This is a milestone for FedEx in Asia Pacific. The deployment of the new zero emission all-electric vehicles demonstrates FedEx commitment to delivering industry-leading innovation, while reducing our environmental impact. We are proud to build a more sustainable operation in the long-term through fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, and provide our customers with unparalleled connectivity and services. These electric trucks are not only aimed at improving FedEx fleet efficiency in Asia Pacific, but also promoting the development of all-electric trucks among all vehicle users for a more sustainable future," said David L. Cunningham Jr., president, FedEx Asia Pacific. FedEx is looking to achieve its environmental goals through EarthSmart -- the FedEx roadmap for operating in an increasingly sustainable way and engaging team members, customers, business partners, and a network of influencers to help reduce the environmental impact of its daily business operations. FedEx currently has more than 650 alternative fuel vehicles in its global vehicle fleet, and will have approximately 200 all-electric vehicles by the end of its fiscal year 2013. In Asia Pacific, FedEx has two hybrid vehicles in Hong Kong already in operation since 2010 and teamed with General Motors in Japan in the test operations of a fuel-cell delivery vehicle for one year. FedEx announced in September 2012 that it had been working with Nissan to co-test the e-NV200 electric van in Japan and the U.K. To find out more about the new FedEx Smith Edison™ electric vans and watch how they were transformed into FedEx-branded vehicles, as well as learn about FedEx commitment to the environmental sustainability, please visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wd5bhTAMDNk&feature=youtu.be.

Created specifically for the World Festival of Sacred Music, this program was a cross-cultural model of collaboration fostered by the Asia Pacific Performance Exchange (APPEX) -- an international residency program held in Bali, Indonesia. Peni Candra Rini is one of few vocalists in Indonesia who performs sindhen, a female solo accompanist to a gamelan orchestra. As a lecturer in the department of Karawitan ISI (Institut Seni Indonesia), Surakarta, Java, she is strongly committed to preserving the musical traditions of her country. Peni is currently in-residence at the California Institute of the Arts on a six-month grant from the Asian Cultural Council. She has performed in numerous festivals and concerts throughout Africa, Asia, Australia, and Europe. Tonight’s performance marks her U.S. / North American debut. Los Angeles Electric 8 is a chamber octet in which eight guitarists reclaim classical music for the electric guitar. The effect is an exploration of a greater potential for the electric guitar with both intentional and accidental nods to the rock characteristics of the instrument. The octet’s repertoire spans the late Renaissance to the present day, ranging from the polychoral music of Giovanni Gabrieli to Igor Stravinsky’s Octet for Wind Instruments. Their most recent program, Interlocking Textures, juxtaposes Indonesian gamelan with American minimalism, highlighting the work of ethnomusicologist Mantle Hood and celebrated composer Steve Reich. Beyond re-imagining the traditional, the Electric 8 is devoted to playing new music. The group has premiered new works by Frank J. Oteri, Phil Kline, and Peter Yates and continues to actively collaborate with living composers from around the world. Both their debut album Los Angeles Electric 8 plays Shostakovich, Mendelssohn, Braddock, Siegel, and Kohl, and their latest release Imagined Overtures, illustrate how the group balances adapting the old and advancing the new. Los Angeles Electric 8 has performed in a variety of national festivals including the Strathmore Guitar Festival, REDCAT’s 2010 Summer Studio, the 2009 Santa Barbara Guitar Festival, the 2008 World Festival of Sacred Music, and 2008 MicroFest. Aside from performing, the octet is committed to outreach, teaching classical guitar throughout Los Angeles and presenting lecture/demonstrations at universities, community schools, and state prisons. LAE8 2011 is: Hugo Aguayo, Tom Farrell, Philip Graulty, Chelsea Green, Kai Kurosawa, Marc Nimoy, Felix Salazar, and JohnPaul Trotter. For more information, please visit: www.losangeleselectric8.com.
