Reaching for the Sky Since Archimedes laid down the concept more than 2,000 years ago, elevators have become a ubiquitous - yet often overlooked - part of our lives. As skyscrapers reach ever higher, so does the technology that moves us up and down. Mitsubishi Electric is now hoping to set a new world record for the world's fastest elevator once the new 632-meter Shanghai Tower opens to the public this spring. On this episode of J-TECH, we examine the technology behind modern elevator systems, and discover how Japanese elevators earned their reputation as the fastest and smoothest in the world. building insurance elevator documentary elevator insurance lift services domestic lift Elevator Company elevator companies, elevator company Elevator Manufacturers elevator manufacturers, elevator manufacture Otis Elevators otis elevator, otis elevators, elevator otis Elevator Design elevator design, front elevation designs Elevator Building how to build an elevator, building elevation, building elevations

UNDER ELECTRIC CLOUDS (Pod elektricheskimi oblakami) (Russia, Ukraine, Poland) actress Viktoriya Korotkova accepts the award for Achievement in Directing on behalf of director Aleksey German at at the 9th Asia Pacific Screen Awards. UNDER ELECTRIC CLOUDS | Synopsis It’s the year 2017, a century after the Russian Revolution, and seven very different characters find their lives thrown together under the shadow of a great, unfinished skyscraper. From an immigrant construction worker through to real estate lawyers, architects, politicians, Mafioso and disgraced oligarchs, the building looms over them all – a reminder of 100 years of great hopes and failed dreams. Winner of the Silver Bear award for Cinematography at this year’s Berlinale, Under Electric Clouds is the transcendent new film from writer-director Alexey German Jr (Paper Soldiers, The Last Train). A sprawling, impressionistic parable on contemporary Russia, this is a mesmerising depiction of a country sliding into a spiritual abyss.

6th Asia-Pacific Base Oil, Lubricant & Grease Conference Technology Overview of Next Generation Electrical Propulsion Vehicles for Future Energy Sustainability and Environmental Opportunity Simon Tung Global OEM Industry Liaison Manager R.T. Vanderbilt Co., Inc. Abstract Both the petroleum and automotive industries are facing higher energy cost, tighter legislation pressure, and increasing environmental awareness to meet the world's demand for energy sustainability. As we look at the global energy and environment pictures today, the auto industry no longer relies exclusively on oil to supply the world's future automotive energy requirements. Using advanced propulsion systems and green environmental solutions, we can offer a broad range of clean and efficient vehicles, powered by different sources of new energy, to best meet future consumer needs around the world. Beyond current improvements to conventional gasoline or diesel engines, huge environmental opportunities can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and oil demand from imports. These new challenges will promote future development of alternative electrical propulsion systems and increased diversity of new energy sources. This paper will cover advanced propulsion technologies and future environmental opportunities including the major issues of greenhouse gas emissions, next generation hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV). We have investigated the well-to-wheel energy efficiency and total greenhouse gas emission of the above electrical propulsion systems. A technology overview of advanced energy storage system and different levels of electrical charging systems will be provided with more feasible technology solutions for greenhouse gas emission reduction and energy diversity. This overview paper will also address the rationale for both HEV and FCEV technologies, and demonstrate the technical barriers for developing key components for next generation automobiles. In addition, the converging issues of energy sustainability and environmental solutions will be discussed in detail. Advanced fuel-efficient lubricants and their energy material development have a very high potential for the future global market. About the Speaker Simon Tung is global OEM industry liaison manager at R.T. Vanderbilt Co., Inc. In his new position, Simon will lead global OEM liaison activities, working on developing and disseminating global OEM advanced lubricant requirements and energy resources technologies. In addition, he will assist in advancing tribology and lubricant technology programs at R.T. Vanderbilt. Simon has been involved in the automotive industry since joining General Motors Research Laboratories in 1982. While there, he led pioneering research and development on automotive powertrain tribology and surface engineering and was appointed a Technical Fellow at General Motors R&D Center in 2003. In 2008, he joined the Industrial Technology Research Institute as general director, where he was responsible for managing all R&D programs in the Energy and Environmental Research Laboratories in Taiwan. He made significant contribution in the research areas of green energy, energy storage system, hydrogen energy, biofuels and greenhouse gas emission reduction. In addition, he has received 25 professional outstanding achievement awards in his career. Recently, he was honored with SAE International's Edward N. Cole Award for Automotive Engineering Innovation during the SAE 2011 World Congress. Simon's technical expertise includes energy technology, environmental engineering, surface engineering and automotive systems. He has more than 180 published works and holds more than 30 U.S. and international patents on novel methods for improving energy efficiency and environmental protection. He has received many distinguished honors, including being named an SAE Fellow and a Fellow at the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE), as well as receiving the Gold Award from the Engineering Society of Detroit. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Tung also received an MBA Degree from the University of Michigan.
